Psalm 33

Where have all the tyrants gone?
Psalm 33

WEDNESDAY  Reflections

In this wonderful psalm of praise, there is a verse which at times seems not to be true. "The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples" Psalm 33:10.

There are times which this doesn't seem to be true but look at history. Have any of the tyrants of old remain? What of those who have tried to rule the world, or control great swaths of people? They have all failed. Their time passed. Some have been overthrown, others have died, but all are gone.

Yes, we could give credit to time and the change of people, but those that look to God praise Him for all. No, He might not have shot the gun which brought down a dictator, nor forced people to rise up against a government, but He gives us all the life to do what we do. We also know that He ultimately will weave the dark threads of mankind into His own tapestry to create something beyond belief.

Psa 33:1-22
(1)  Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright.
(2)  Praise the LORD with harp: sing unto him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings.
(3)  Sing unto him a new song; play skilfully with a loud noise.
(4)  For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth.
(5)  He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD.
(6)  By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.
(7)  He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses.
(8)  Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
(9)  For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.
(10)  The LORD bringeth the counsel of the heathen to nought: he maketh the devices of the people of none effect.
(11)  The counsel of the LORD standeth for ever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
(12)  Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.
(13)  The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men.
(14)  From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth.
(15)  He fashioneth their hearts alike; he considereth all their works.
(16)  There is no king saved by the multitude of an host: a mighty man is not delivered by much strength.
(17)  An horse is a vain thing for safety: neither shall he deliver any by his great strength.
(18)  Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;
(19)  To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.
(20)  Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.
(21)  For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
(22)  Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.

  1. Hello Pastor C.S Areson. I am also a Pastor of the Church of the Nazarene from the other part of the world that is India. What a joy it brings to my heart to know another brother who is serving the Lord through Church of the Nazarene. It is not an accident to come across your profile on the blogger and the blog post but I do believe that it is God's doing so that I get to know you and also get connected with you. I have been in the Pastoral ministry for last 40 yrs in this great city of Mumbai, India. While serving the same church for last 40 yrs the Lord also gave me an opportunity to lead the Western Maharashtra District from 23 yrs as a District Superintendent and also helped me to bring this District to a phase III STATUS IN 2008. Today the District is in a bad shape and I feel so sorry to see this District in this fallen state. I also served the field as an Assistnt Field Strategy Coordinator for five years and at the moment still serving the field in the capacity of filed facilitator while also being on the several BOARDS on the field. I HAVE really enjoyed your blog post and I AM ALSO BLESSED by it. Also I am moved by hearing the story of your grand mother being killed by a serial killer and the book you have written on "Impossible to Forgive" based on this story. I would love to have ebook on the above topic. I would like to remain connected with you. My email id is: dhwankhede(at)gmail(dot)com andmy name is Diwakar Wankhede
